Winner of the Design Preis Schweiz
On Friday, 5 November 2021, the Design Preis Schweiz Edition 21 awards ceremony took place in Langenthal. The biennial event was held for the 16th time and Circleg was a nominee in the Category «Going Circular Economy».
The Design Preis Schweiz is the most important event for the Swiss design industry with a total of 15 award winners from 36 nominations in nine categories. Circleg was nominated for the prize in the newly launched category «Going Circular Economy». With this category, the Design Preis Schweiz has become increasingly relevant and important and is positioning itself as a driver for sustainable development. We appreciate this trend and think it is wonderful that the circular economy is no longer a question of entrepreneurial size, but that both globally leading manufacturers and small labels are converting their production and design processes to the circular economy strategy.
At the beginning of 2021, Circleg got nominated with the following comment from the nominators:
«An extremely exciting endeavour that convincingly applies Circular Design principles and combines them with a strong social approach. The prosthesis suddenly becomes affordable thanks to modular design and local production, thus enabling «help for self-help». The modular design of the prostheses supports their longevity.»
The category «Going Circular Economy» was then also the big winner of the prize ceremony in Langenthal. No less than four entries received a Design Preis Schweiz in that category. We are super proud that Circleg is one of them and were extremely honoured to receive this award alongside known brands such as the Swiss shoe manufacturer On, earlybird skis, and Fluidsolids Biocomposites.
With the handover of the award, we received the following commentary from the jury, which of course also honours us very much:
«Circleg addresses a problem that has received far too little attention for far too long: millions of people around the world are unable to move around independently simply because they lack the means for suitable orthopaedic leg prostheses. This alarming finding was the trigger for an ambitious project that combines several goals: the development of a functionally flawless prosthesis that is also affordable for many people and can be produced according to ecological principles and with the help of regional structures. The makers of Circleg have – according to our impression – succeeded in a gratifying way in meeting the demands they have set themselves. With the help of a cleverly woven ecosystem, they have done everything right, considered everything and developed a convincing solution for all aspects of their complex task – a great achievement!»
We attended the prize ceremony in Langenthal with the whole team and celebrated this success of course together. The award ceremony can be re-watched under the following video. We receive our award at minute 1:50:30. Enjoy!
