Freedom of mobility

When we say direct impact, we mean it! In February, we provided our first ten «Freedom of Mobility Packages» to amputees in need in Uganda.

This is a new program which allows donors to provide Circleg prosthetics, training and psychosocial support to low income amputees in dire need, thus allowing amputees to get back on their feet, literally and figuratively, enabling true and long lasting impact.

A total of 10 amputees were successfully fitted with high-quality prosthetic limbs during the first phase in 2024 of the project. These achievements were made possible through the coordinated efforts of Circleg, Newlife, CoRSU.

Circleg, as the project coordinator and prosthetic provider, ensured the delivery of affordable and innovative prosthetic solutions while enabling accessibility and empowering the beneficiaries. Newlife and CoRSU served as our key implementation partners, providing socket manufacturing, fitting, gait training and comprehensive rehabilitative prosthetic care in their facilities, which embrace a holistic approach in service delivery.

Every beneficiary received dedicated psychosocial support provided by ASNU, with Dr. Alex from our Team playing a pivotal role in offering guidance and encouragement. Dr. Alex’s compassionate and attentive approach proved invaluable, as beneficiaries reported feeling empowered and better equipped to cope with their challenges. To further ensure the success of the prosthetic

fittings, Emmanuel from our team personally traveled to Uganda to conduct technical support and follow-ups. He checked the quality of each prosthetic fitting, ensuring it met both the physical and functional needs of the beneficiaries.

This holistic approach, combining psychosocial support and technical follow-up, has been essential in achieving the positive outcomes experienced by the beneficiaries.

Here are three stories of transformation

Ssesanga Ibrahim

At 19, Ibrahim worked casual jobs to support himself. His leg was crushed in a market accident when the lorry he was traveling in overturned. With his new Circleg prosthetic, he’s excited to return to school and regain his independence.

Tamale Safalu

A former truck driver, Tamale lost his leg in a motorcycle accident. After recovery, he took up weightlifting for the national Paralympic team and later became East Africa’s bodybuilding champion in his category. Now, he’s using Circleg in daily life and competition, pushing his limits in the sport he loves.

Aisha Binti Abduher

Aisha lost her leg in a landmine explosion during an insurgency in northern Uganda. Last year, she fell and broke her femur due to not having a prosthetic. Now, with her Circleg, she’s back to running her small business, supporting her community, and enjoying life again.
